Glossary of definitions

Confused by some of the travel lingo you're hearing? Don't worry, we've created this guide to help to make things clearer. Let's check the most frequent expressions we use in the ground transport industry.

Dictionary
airport: an airfield equipped with control tower and hangars as well as accommodations for passengers and cargo
airport code: the three letter IATA codes used in the travel industry to identify airports (i.e.: ALC is Alicante, VLC for Valencia, LGW for London Gatwick, etc.)
airport transfers: Transport services to and/or from an airport to hotel, camping, port or private address.
car rental: car hire without driver for short periods of time. (also known as Self Drive Car Hire)
chauffeur: a person employed to drive a private motor vehicle or a hired car.
coach hire: transportation services provided to the customer and his party according to the individual time and route requirements of the customer. The customer and his party does not travel with any other party. Transportation vehicle used is a coach or bus.
ETA: the abbreviation of Estimated Time of Arrival, used in computer reservations systems, airports, and in general by the travel industry.
IATA: acronym of International Air Transport Association
limousine: a luxurious car driven by a chauffeur.
open jaw: a trip returning to the same departure point where the outbound itinerary is different from the return itinerary. (i.e. Travel from A to B, then C to A)
pax: abbreviated form of Passenger or Passengers used in Computer Reservation Systems and in the travel industry.
private hire with driver: transportation services are provided to the customer and his party according to the individual time and route requirements of the customer. the customer and his party does not travel with any other party.
public transport: transportation services used by the general public operating on a predefined route and predefined schedule. The customer and his party travel in a vehicle shared with other customers and members of the public.
shared ride: a synonim of shuttle services, mainly used in United States.
shuttle services: transportation services provided to pre-booked customers on vehicles operating on flexible routing and flexible departure times. The customer and his party travel in a vehicle shared with other customers on a vehicle most convenient to the Supplier.
zulu time: also known as UTC (Universal Time Coordinated), was GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) - Zulu time is the standard time used for flight operations globally.
